Understanding the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and complying with its documentation requirements are significant challenges to implementation. The difficulties of implementing FSMA open up many consulting opportunities for OEMs. About 30 percent of participating companies – particularly smaller ones – plan to use OEMs as a consulting resource to help figure out how FSMA applies to their operations. Fresh fruit and vegetable processors and small food companies are expected to have the most difficulty with compliance. This report is an update to PMMI’s 2014 Food Safety & Traceability Report.
